What is Propulsid used for?

Propulsid was a heartburn medication that was approved for severe nighttime heartburn experienced by adult patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Why was Propulsid Recalled (or why should it) ?

Recalled in March of 2000. Before it's recall around thirty million Americans used Propulsid. Even early on, cardiac problems had been caused by Propulsid. The FDA strengthened the drug's label a couple times before finally removing it from the market.

At the time Propulsid's recall the medication had been associated with 341 reports of heart rhythm abnormalities, including 80 reports of deaths. The Propulsid reports were including only reported adverse effects as of December 31, 1999.

Propulsid is known generically as cisapride.

What Makes Propulsid a dangerous Drug ( side effects):
