Celexa for the treatment of depression

Celexa is prescribed for the treatment of depression.

Who should not take Celexa? You should not take Celxa if you are currently taking certain other antidepressant medications in the group called monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, such as phenelzine or tranylcypromine. You should stop taking MAO inhibitors 2 weeks before starting Celexa, and you should be off Celexa for 2 weeks before starting on MAO inhibitor medication.

General Precautions to take when on Celexa:

  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how you will react to Celexa.
  • Drinking alcohol while being treated with Celexa is not recommended.

If you currently have, or have a history of the following conditions, your doctor will evaluate you to decide if Celexa is right for you:

  • Mania
  • Seizures
  • Liver disease
  • Severe kidney problems

There are some things that you should tell your doctor when taking this medication:

  • tell your doctor what medications you are taking, including those that you take without a prescription, as there may be interactions.
  • Tell your doctor if you are trying to become pregnant, are already pregnant, or are breast feeding.

The most common side effect with Celexa is sexual problems in male patients.

Some other possible side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness
  • Increase in sweating

    I baby sit my 16 month old. should I take Celexa while keeping a small child?? the dosage is 10mg
