Discontinued effective July 14, 2000, after being linked to serious cardiac arrhythmias, The marketing of Cisapride was discontinued as of July 14, 2000 after the FDA assessed the risk of death and serious conditions to be very high. In 1998, the FDA warned doctors to use the drug only as a last resort when reports of the dangers of using Cisapride continued to be made.
Cisapride is associated with 341 FDA reports of heart rhythm abnormalities, including 80 deaths.
