It has not been recalled as of yet. One rare side effect is muscle waste (myopathy) leading to kidney failure.
The rate of reports of kidney failure or damage by patients taking Crestor is 75 times higher than in all patients taking all other statins.
Crestor has been known to cause some common side effects, such as muscle pain, weakness, stomach problems, nausea and constipation, but Crestor warnings also outline even more serious adverse health effects of taking Crestor.
Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria [a protein from muscle] have been reported with Crestor and with other drugs in this class.
