Why was Norplant Recalled (or why should it be) ?

Not yet recalled. Since it was approval the contraceptive has been controversial due to its side effects and the companies failure to communicate the risks of side effects to the patients. American Home Products, Norplant manufacturer, has consistently denied they did anything wron, yet Norplant has been involved in tens of thousands of lawsuits over the years.

Patients have alleged that Norplant makers failed to warn them about the severity of side effects they may experience. The first Norplant lawsuit went to trial in 1998 and the makers of the medication agreed to offer cash settlements.
