Medicinal Uses of Black cohosh
Black cohosh is a member of the buttercup family. Many American Indians as wells as some early American settlers saw it as an important medicine for menstrual irregularities and as a natural aid in childbirth.
Black cohosh has a a great reputation for helping rheumatism (arthritis and muscle pain) and is used as an anti- inflammatory. It is also sometimes used to treat hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and other symptoms of menopause.
Black cohosh is approved in Germany to treat premenstrual symptoms, painful menstruation, and menopausal symptoms. A number of studies have shown that it has mild sedative and anti- inflammatory activity.
