Nightshades relationship to arthritis and inflammation
Nightshades used to be thought of as something that was poisonous and not for human consumption. In fact, they were once only used as ornaments. But these days things have changed, they are now some of the most popular foods, and are eaten by people world wide.
So What are Nightshades?
Nightshades are a diverse group of herbs and foods that include:
- potatoes
- tomatoes
- Peppers (both sweet and hot peppers)
- eggplants
- pimentos
- paprika
- Cayenne Peppers (although there are some studies that have shown that Cayenne Peppers may help arthritis and joint pain)
- Tabasco sauce
So whats the deal? Should people eat nightshades?
Well, most experts really aren’t sure. Two of the biggest problems associated with nightshades are arthritis and inflammation. There have been numerous studies that have suggested that eating nightshades like tomatoes, may cause or make your arthritis problems worse.
If you suffer from inflammation or joint problems like arthritis and gout, you might want to stop eating nightshades for a couple week. Eliminating Nightshades from your diet will help you determine whether your problems are food related, or caused by another source. In some cases, eliminating nightshades has been enough to stop painful joint problems in a lot of people.
